The following information concerning American-owned airlines and their current baggage policies is accurate as of date of publication.

For each fare-paying customer, AirTran Airways will allow one (1) checked piece free of charge, with size and weight limitations. The charge for a second checked bag will be $10 when paid using Online Check-In or $20 when paid at the airport kiosks and ticket counter.
Active military personnel traveling with ID and official orders are exempt from paying the second bag fee. They may also check in one (1) Duffle or Sea bag with a maximum weight of 70 lbs free of charge. Other types of bags (i.e. Black 22) are subject to weight and size limitations.

Customers who purchased domestic economy class tickets May 12, 2008, through June 14, 2008, may check one bag for free and check a second bag for $25 each way. Customers who purchase domestic economy class tickets on or after June 15, 2008, will be charged $15 each way for the first checked bag and $25 each way for the second checked bag.
Exceptions to this policy include customers who purchase First or Business Class tickets, AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® and AAdvantage Gold® members as well as customers who purchase full-fare tickets in Economy Class.
Passengers traveling to Europe and Asia are entitled to 2 checked bags at no charge. |

Continental has implemented a $25 fee for customers checking a second bag when traveling on Economy fare tickets purchased on or after April 5, 2008 for travel within the 50 U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.
The $25 fee also applies when traveling on Economy fare tickets purchased on or after May 8, 2008 between Mexico, Bahamas, Caribbean, Central and South America* (excluding Brazil) and the 50 U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.

You can check one bag per passenger free of charge when traveling in the U. S., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. If traveling outside the U.S. you can check two bags free of charge.
Each bag must:
- Weigh 50 pounds (22.5 kg) or less

Domestic Travel (within the U.S./Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean)
Coach Class: Effective May 5, 2008, each ticketed passenger is allowed one (1) piece of checked luggage.
Coach Class: For tickets purchased on/after July 10, 2008 for travel on/after August 28, 2008, each ticketed passenger is allowed one (1) piece of checked luggage for a fee of USD $15 each-way and a second pieced of checked luggage for a fee of USD $25 each-way. Third and subsequent pieces will be assessed a fee of USD $100 per piece each-way.
Each piece: 50 pounds (23 kg) with linear dimensions not to exceed 62 inches (158 cm).
Northwest Airlines' Silver, Gold and Platinum WorldPerks® Elite customers, SkyTeam Elite customers and passengers booked in full fare classes (Y or B) may check two bags free of charge. Customers seated in First Class may check up to three bags free of charge. Luggage in excess of these special free allowances will be charged a fee of $100 per piece each-way.

First Class: Each ticketed passenger is allowed three (3) checked pieces.
First two (2) pieces: 70 pounds (32 kg) with linear dimensions not to exceed 62 inches (158 cm) per piece.
Third piece: 40 pounds (18 kg) with linear dimensions not to exceed 45 inches (115 cm).
Note: The same checked luggage allowance applies to children and infants paying at least 50% of the adult fare. Infants traveling free of charge are permitted one (1) carry-on diaper bag, free of charge.
International Travel - between North America and Africa / Asia / Europe / India / Middle East)
Coach Class: Each ticketed passenger is allowed two (2) pieces of checked luggage.
Exception for Coach Class International travel with a connection time of eight (8) hours or more that requires luggage to be re-checked for a flight within the US, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean: Each ticketed passenger is allowed one (1) piece of checked luggage (see below for details)*
Each piece: 50 pounds (23 kg) with linear dimensions not to exceed 62 inches (158 cm).
Exceptions for trans-Pacific travel wholly between U.S./Canada and the Philippines, China and Hong Kong, checked pieces may weigh up to 70 pounds (32 kg) each. Beginning August 1, 2008 for ticketing and travel on/after August 1, 2008, these exceptions will be removed. Travel between these countries will be subject to the standard Economy free luggage allowance of two (2) pieces up to 50 pounds (23 kgs) each, with a linear dimension not to exceed 62 inches (158 cm) each.
Checked luggage within the free 2 bag allowance that weigh more than 50 pounds and up to 70 pounds will be assessed a $50.00 heavy bag fee.
Checked luggage within the free 2 bag allowance whose linear dimensions exceed 62 inches will be assessed 2 excess baggage charges. See rate table.
(Applicable to Trans-Pacific travel between North America and Asia) Checked luggage within the free 2 bag allowance whose weight exceeds 70 pounds will be assessed 3 excess baggage charges.

If you are traveling on or after August 18, 2008 on an Economy ticket or Economy award ticket purchased on or after June 13, 2008, a $15 service fee will apply for your first checked bag. Also, as previously announced, a $25 fee will apply for a second checked bag, depending on when you purchased your ticket and when you are traveling. Please refer to the chart below to see which checked baggage fees may apply to you.
Baggage fee exceptions
You are exempt from the above fees for checking your first two bags if you are:
- traveling in United First® or United Business®;
- a Global ServicesSM, Mileage Plus® 1K®, Premier Executive®, Premier® or Premier Associate® member;
- a Star Alliance® Gold or Silver member; or
- military personnel traveling on orders.

US Airways will assess a $15 fee for passengers’ first checked bags. If you purchased a ticket before July 9, the fee won’t apply. We’ve also recently begun charging $25 for second checked bags. The new checked bag policies apply to all flights to and from Canada (beginning July 28, 2008 for flights to/from Canada) Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as flights within the U.S.
The following passengers are exempt** from the first and second checked bag fee:
- All Dividend Miles Preferred members (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Chairman’s Preferred)
- Passengers traveling to and from Europe, or to and from Asia
- Star Alliance Silver and Gold status members
- Unaccompanied minors
- Passengers checking personal assistive devices
- Confirmed First Class and Envoy passengers at time of check-in
- Active military personnel with ID and government issued travel orders/on active duty status (luggage up to 99 lbs/45 kg free of charge)
